A Monday in the Life of a Mortgage Loan Officer

My dogs make sure I’m up and about every morning, no later that 8am.

When nature calls… well, I have to answer or else it will call all over the house. So that’s the start of my day.

Mondays always find a way to trick me. Over the weekend, I always get that false sense of security that things are running smooth… Until about 9 am when the e-mails start pouring in.

You know that loan that was supposed to fund today?

Closing documents with title are missing a page. It absolutely needs to be signed. So here I am, dialing the borrower’s number. Not to offer congratulations on the loan funding, but to urge him for “one more document”… Funding postponed.

That other loan that just came out of underwriting, round two: 3 more conditions on it.

Turns out the appraiser made a typo on the property address, writing 1325 instead of 1352. Now the title company needs to be notified, and all other documents have to be checked for the error as a mistake like this can cause a chain reaction of incorrect documents.

The highlight of my day: figuring out how to provide proof of “no-insurance” on a property where the owner elected not to have it. “Just smile and wave, boys. Smile and wave.”

One thing after another and 5pm creeps up on me. My day isn’t necessarily over, but most everyone else’s is – and that is a welcomed break for me. I finish up my tasks, stretch, and call it a day.

I’m not complaining. For the most part I love my job, as fast paced and stressful as it is at times.

I just dislike Mondays.
